voodshtoov: day three

day three in the shtoodio wash quite succsheshful, lettuce tell you about it.   Here’s what the critics said about day three:

“Loaded On Sunday” is being meticulously constructed out of the purest roots of lazy shredded magma.  When guitarist Daniel King was slugging off righteous licks left and right the band and engineer Parker Cipolle (and yesterday’s guest sound extraordinaire Marc Snyder) had to keep checking the tape to make sure it didn’t disintegrate. Prior to hot fire, Ron Gallo flung a mere tsp. of dirt onto the magnetic highway.  Multi-instrumentalist Noah Skaroff watched from a pile of salty deegs while cuddling with the stove across the room and plotted his peaceful assault to be happening quite soon.  Bassist Bennett Daniels and Drummist Thomas Cladek we’re nowhere to be found on day three, sources are driven to believe that the two fled the premises to pursue Mecca after delivering a rhythmic masterpiece.

woodshtove: day two

Oh man, watching dan shred so much gnar through “Loaded on Sunday” right now the whole room looks like the photograph above.  Hi there, How are you? Good, things are coming along.

woodstove: day one

We banged out drums, bass and a little bit of guitar for 4… 3 useable jams today.  Our biggest downfall was the frequency 469 Hz.  An antarctican tuning that was very popular in the 1400’s (B.C.)  Which at the time made sense.

So, to fill everyone in that is curious, here is what is happening here.  We will be re-releasing “Whisper Down the Lane” with new and exciting means, to be discussed further soon, and with this re-release we will be including 4 additional brand new studio tracks as well as brand new live tracks of songs on the current release.  These live tracks will be acquired on February 12th and March 13th shows we will be having at The Fire, so be there if you wanna have your howling on our album!

Here is a sneak peak at the song list of new songs to be included (so that you can fantasize what they may sound like judging by their title):

Be Right Here
Loaded On Sunday
Beside You In Mind
The Turnaround

How good does that sound?

Much love and talk soon.

HooDoo

Here let’s plan out our sunday:  Wake Up, watch “The Skeleton Key” starring Kate Hudson, listen to Dr. John’s “Gris-Gris” while you make biscuits.

Today we (toy soldiers) begin recording some new tracks at bennett’s ex-abode “Woodstove”.  These tracks will appear on the re-release of our first album “Whisper Down the Lane” due in late spring-early summer.  More to be said about all that soon.

Thank You!

Just want to give a big thanks to everyone that came out to Johnny Brenda’s last night.  It was such a great feeling for all of us to return to such warmth, good times and all your beautiful & familiar faces.

And for your listening enjoyment and pleasure, your intellectual and physical stimulation, to inspire open eyes and unpasteurized joy do yourself a big favor and listen to Phillys finest who we shared the stage with last night:

The Great Unknown – for fans of pastoral scenery, brilliant heartfelt country jams, feeling good, feeling great, wilco (band & the gas station), and sunny days in the fields.
TJ Kong & the Atomic Bomb – for fans of an endless supply of wit, grungy grimey fairytales, whiskey, highway 61 revisited, folk dance and time travel.

We’re going to be taking the next two weeks to work out some new songs and also start mapping out our coming EP and album as well as our future plans (exciting.)  So everyone be on the lookout for all of that good stuff, you will also be able to purchase the brand new Toy Soldiers T-Shirt at TS emporium very soon.

Be well.

Welcome Home!

Being away from home (which I started to despise for a minute there) has brought a new level of appreciation for this city in which i live.  Maybe it’s the guaranteed bed?

But regardless of the fact that we aren’t even three weeks in Toy Soldiers has already had one hell of a year and has a ton of great things coming in the not so distant future.  It’s been a while since we’ve had one of those hometown Philly shows where all of our friends, family and supporters came out and flung love like mud all over the room, all while we played for you all.  So! in light of that we’d love it a whole lot if everyone and everyone’s everyone came out this friday to Johnny Brenda’s to kick off the new year properly and make a whole night out of it.

Here’s what you need to know:

Harrisonburg, VA — Baltimore, MD — HOME!

As we concluded this adventure we hit two more cities before returning to Philadelphia.  The first one being Harrisonburg VA on Saturday night and then Baltimore on Sunday.  Both of these shows went very well, not much else to say about them.  At this point we had covered so many miles in so little time that we sort of took it easy.

In Harrisonburg we stayed at The Nightmare House.  As in the role this played in our dreams…Bennett dreamt of writing a book about southern accents (“ice cream” being the extent of his dreamt genius) and Noah had a Jersey Shore inspired nightmare which involved him throwing fists and ending up in a state of zero redemption or forgiveness.  Both woke happily.

Baltimore was a speedy process.  We had a supporting slot at Ottobar for Seattle based The Dutchess and The Duke.  We played quickly and headed out right after to hit the road homebound, getting back into Philly before midnight, nothing much else to say about this show besides thanks a million to Steve from J. Roddy and The Business for making this show happen and giving us a nice introduction to Baltimore and that home was just a few hours away and though a great trip we were ready for rest.

For those of you following us along our adventures we thank you for that, and we will continuously be posting video/audio/photo, etc. from the tour.  A lot is still in the mixing/editing stages.

WOO!

Blacksburg, VA – The Best Thus Far

When we walked into Gillie’s it was nothing but a restaurant, but by the end of the night it was turned into… well, something other than that.  By our second set we had the whole room dancing (VIDEO COMING SOON…) and can safely say it was hands down one of the best nights and best crowds we’ve had all of tour, we were told that it was the best out-of-town band night they’ve ever had so that was encouraging.  We met some really welcoming great new friends and went to Wang Park post-show  to renew our “Early Times” childhoods by suspending ourselves in the big spider-web pyramid structure and swingin’ on dem swings.

A million thanks to Christy and Julie and everyone else for having us stay at their home and showing us a great time.  Blacksburg will become a regular stop for the band from this point forward.

Knoxville, TN!

Knoxville is a perdy little city.  A ridiculous early rise in Nashville (5:30 AM), to arrive at the Knoxville Visitors Center AKA Home of WDVX on time for load-in at 10:30 AM, all working with the time zone change.  It went very well, all a bit worn out, voices crackling but still had a nice time and you ca hear/see for yourself above!
